Why do it?

Women masturbate because of the pleasure it gives them, the opportunity to get to know their body and it gives them sexual freedom. Another advantage of masturbation is that it gives the woman the opportunity to have sexual pleasure without having to rely on a partner and that it ca be done whenever you're in the mood.

Masturbation gives women control over their body and teaches them how their body responds to sexual stimulation.

Masturbation is also the only means by which you're positive you're going to have an orgasm.

Most women have the best orgasms of their lives while masturbating, because they know what they like more than their partner does, they are free to fantasize, and they don't have to worry about pleasing their partner at the same time.

Last but not least, masturbation is a great way to release sexual tension even if you don't have a partner.

Masturbation is probably the first form of sexual pleasure a woman or man experiences. Masturbation is also the most important way of getting to know the body and the means by which one can obtain pleasure.

Masturbation should be known about before entering puberty, because usually children, as they enter puberty know little or nothing about the changes that occur during puberty. It's not uncommon though that women find out about masturbation or experience it even after puberty and adolescence have passed.

Knowledge about masturbation and how it is done may make a girl feel less compelled to start her sex – life with a partner when she's not mentally and physically ready to do so.

It is a known fact that during puberty and adolescence hormonal changes occur. So instead of having sexual frustrations or having sex when neither the girl's body nor mind are prepared to do so masturbation is a better option if you ask me.

Why? Because menstruation usually starts between 10 and 14 years, but the body is not yet ready to support pregnancy, birth and nursing.

Starting to masturbate early also has other advantages. When we are younger we don't tend to pay so much attention to social regulations and sometimes we don't even know what we're doing. That prevents us from thinking too much and feeling guilty for doing it. Learning about masturbation and orgasm is better if you first do it before you find out how other people perceive masturbation.

It's impossible to say that all women masturbate in the same way just as it's impossible to think that all men masturbate in the same way.

Girls have an edge over men, because they can “play” in more areas of their genitals than men.

The most common way of masturbation is by touching and rubbing the clitoris either with the entire palm or only with the fingers. They can also rub the vulva against soft objects (like pillows). Some women masturbate by pressing their thighs together or use dildos, vibrator or watter spray.

The vagina is usually not stimulated during masturbation, but it's not unusual for women to insert objects or their fingers in the vagina.

Most of the times, the stimulation of the vagina is used at the same time with the stimulation of the clitoris.

Fantasy is important in most women's masturbation activities as the brain helps trigger arousal and orgasm.

As you know, there's no right or wrong in love making if both the partners agree to it. Just the same, there is no right or wrong to what any woman or man can do while masturbating, as long as it feels good for them.

In masturbation, unlike sex, you have complete control and focus over your feelings and motions, and you don't have to worry that “you're not doing it right”.

Masturbation should be a time that you use for your own pleasure, without thinking if others do it, how they do it, how often and why.

Besides that, you don't have to do things you don't like or you're not opened to trying just because you want to please your partner. You can experiment only when you want to and do what you like to do.

Also, masturbation should be enjoyable, fun, releasing. You mustn't feel obligated to do it. It's normal. Everyone does it. It's not something to be ashamed of or feel guilty about. It's not something inappropriate and as I said, it's perfectly normal.

If you feel guilty about it, you'll only make yourself feel worse about doing it, and spoil one of the things that can make you feel good and happy with yourself.

On the other hand, female masturbation is not as talked about, not as acknowledged as male masturbation is. Men are known to masturbate, it's a known fact that they do it, they even talk about it, they have “who shoots further” competitions.

The social response it's different to female masturbation than it is to male masturbation.

This probably because men are not so shy in talking about their sexual habits. But that's because men are not blamed or seen as depraved if they do talk about their masturbation habits.

So what I'm saying is that, if a girl has the support of her friends and knows that they masturbate too, that it's not a shameful thing, she's more likely to do it.

Misconceptions about female masturbation

There are so many misconceptions regarding female masturbation that I'm sure I can't think and write about all. I'd be happy if you guys could give me some feed-back about this subject.

I'll tell you about the ones i could think about :

  • Masturbation is only for single women
So wrong... that's like saying masturbation is only for single men.

For women it's harder to be single, it's a nastier label than it is for men. But I ask myself... Why?

In my humble opinion masturbation is for couples, single men and single women. I say that because I feel that masturbation is a great opportunity for a man and a woman to know each other and to know themselves.

And besides, as far as I know, it's the closest thing to sex when you're single.

The “single” part should stop being a “stigma”, because just because it is so badly seen, it makes women and men keep getting into what they know from the start will be a disastrous relationship (that includes the crappy sex) just so they're not single anymore.

Oh... almost forgot... people who are in couples also masturbate...

  • Masturbation is infidelity
Ha! That really makes me laugh...

Some women who have partners don't masturbate, even if they want to, because they see masturbation as cheating on their partner.

More than that... they think that they're not normal because they want to masturbate when they have a partner because it is believed that sexual activities with your partner are all you need to have a fulfilling sex-life.

But... does that happen in real life? Be honest... even if it does happen, it can't happen all the time.

Besides that, you can be sure that men involved in relationships masturbate without feeling that they are cheating.

  • Women don't need to masturbate like men do
That's thought to be true because it's also thought to be true that women are not as sexual as men are. I don't know how or why that happens, but most people see women as less “willing”, not in need of sexual stimulation or that they just don't think about sex as often as men do.

I'm not saying that there are not women who don't think about sex (with pleasure), but I think the vast majority of women find sex as an amazing experience and something pleasant to think about. So if you don't have a partner, or if he/she's not there when you're horny, why not masturbate if you feel like it.

  • Women should masturbate only to release sexual tension
    Not what I think.

I think that women (and men), should masturbate because it feels good, because it gives them pleasure. Also, one should masturbate as often and for as long as she/he feels like it. As I said before, it's nothing to be ashamed or nervous about, it should be a pleasant experience.

Masturbation is normal

At least as far as I'm concerned masturbation is normal. It shouldn't be seen as something negative, shameful or harming.

I'm not saying that everyone must share my opinion or my feelings about masturbation but I think that everybody should see masturbation as something normal and not as something condemnable .

After all, everyone I know is masturbating and is loving it.

There are a lot of things to learn about your body and sensuality and one of the ways to learn those things is masturbation.

And gynecologists can confirm it.

In 1996 a number of doctors have observed a female fetus touching her vulva with her fingers. The 32 week old female fetus was touching mainly the region of her clitoris.

The caressing movements lasted around 40 seconds and were followed by a few moments breaks. The touches were repeated and associated with movements of the pelvis and legs.

After around 20 minutes the fetus experienced climax, as it contracted the muscles of the limbs and trunk, accompanied by rapid muscle contractions. Then the fetus relaxed. This behavior was noticed and observed by doctors and the mother.

So what does that tell us?
Well, it seems that, at birth, infant boys and girls have some sexual awareness.

The infants might know what sexual pleasure is, not only that, but thy might also know how to obtain it.

The same necessity might accompany fetal thumb sucking and fetal masturbation.

We need to ask ourselves if the infant touching her vulva already knows it gives her pleasure or she's just finding out. Is she just becoming aware of it or she's just doing what she learned prior to birth.

When we notice this kind of behavior at an infant, do we make a mistake if we push their hand away? What are the consequences of doing that?

What would happen if we also pushed their hands away when they suck their thumb?

Fetal sexuality actually challenges and contradicts the perceptions we have about human sexuality.
