8. Virginity vs. sexual activity
What is virginity?
![]()
When we think about virginity we usually thing about a young girl or woman who has not yet had vaginal intercourse.
Others might think that a girl is virgin when she did not engage in any form of sexual activity, masturbation or partner sex of any kind. One of my favorite views of virginity is the “intact hymen” one. Most religious doctrines not only forbid actual sex, but they also forbid any kind of sexual thought for a girl to be a virgin. What do you think the definition of virginity should be? In fact that's what it comes down to... what do you think/believe virginity is? DO you think that having a hymen makes you a virgin? What about losing your virginity? It's not uncommon for girls to tear their hymen during sport activities? Do you think that if you have oral and anal sex but not vaginal sex you are a virgin? It's up to each and every woman to decide what virginity/losing their virginity means to them. It's more like a spiritual attribute if you ask me. Let's take the example of the girls who tear their hymen during sport activities. If there is no bleeding and no pain, so the girl does not know that her hymen broke, do you think she'll stop considering herself a virgin? I don't think so. It might sound weird, but a woman can be a virgin more than once. Think about this: what if a woman's first sexual experience is a let – down? So she doesn't have sex for many years. But then she finds a partner with who she is ready to engage in a sexual relationship. Do you think her emotional state of mind will be that of a woman who had countless sexual encounters or that of a woman who is just beginning to explore sexuality... a virgin... Vaginal intercourse has long been seen as a baby – making method and a means for men to use what is rightfully theirs... the woman. So sex is widely regarded as “vaginal penetration”. How come? Why? Oh why? There are so many other ways of experiencing sexual pleasure that do not require a penis or vagina. Sex loses its beauty and meaning when it's only related to procreation. If the false idea that sex is only for making babies goes on to exist it will probably lead to genetic mutations and the extinction of the clitoris... after all... she gets enough pleasure when she has a penis inside her, and the clitoris does not help in procreation. Sex that women enjoy should not only be about someone's vagina and someone else's penis. You do know that the primary purpose of vaginal intercourse is procreation... We transformed it in a pleasurable thing. Pregnancy was highly prized in the past but now the “fear” of pregnancy emerges. Women who get pregnant but are not married are still given the evil eye, not to mention teenage mothers. We seem to lose from sight the fact that no birth control method is 100% safe (you do know that even condoms have a failure rate). Woman sexuality and reproduction can't be separated, simply because the reproduction process, if a little “improved” also happens to feel good. On the other hand, women should not feel like they have to engage in intercourse just because “that's what sex really is”. They must be given the freedom to choose if they want something inside them, what they want inside them, and when they want it. It's a fact that women are not only stimulated by their partner's penis. In addition to that, women also need to be brought in the mood, it's not enough to spread their legs and insert the penis to give them pleasure. The basis for a healthy and well developed woman is laid in childhood. Childhood is a time of learning and experimenting. As a little girl explores the world around her she also explores and gets to know her own body. It depends if the parents see her self-exploring actions as simple curiosities of the age that are better satisfied when they occur or see the gestures and actions as way for the devil to steal their child's soul and turn them into a hell spawn. Explorations a little girl engages in help her discover her body and, while doing that, her vulva. Just as a grownup does, little girls, when finding something that brings them pleasure, keep doing it over and over again. So if a girl finds that touching her vulva makes her feel good she'll probably keep on doing it. There have been accounts of 3 moth old girls masturbating to orgasm. When the little girl learns to walk she'll most likely come in contact with other children of similar ages. So the natural thing that follows is the mutual exploration of other's genital organs. Remember that the children don't know what they are doing and their exploring behavior is not sexual. Also, at a young age, oral stimulation might occur, as little children tend to put everything in their mouths. If a child does not start exploring on his/her she will probably learn the exploring behavior from other kids. Sexual behavior during childhood is natural and normal. The children are protected in this natural learning process by the fact that the girl's reproductive organs are not yet mature and ready for reproduction. Also, if these explorations are made with boys, the penis is too small to penetrate the vagina, not to mention semen is not yet viable. Sexual development should follow the steps described above if we want our children to have a normal sex – life as grownups. I think about sexuality as a learning process... you can't write if no one showed you how, you can't drive if you didn't take lessons.
